Call it a three-egg omelet!
Hundreds of youngsters scoured Bay Ridge parks at a trio of Easter egg hunts on April 16. Kids and their parents dove for eggs in a thrilling test of wills in Shore Road, Owl’s Head, and Leif Ericson parks. The packed egg prowls were such a rollicking good time, one newcomer is already counting down the days until next year’s hunts.
“I had so much fun. I can’t wait to go back next year,” said 8-year-old Sunset Parker Liney Salais, who searched for eggs with her sister in Owl’s Head Park. “It was really fun finding eggs and playing games.”
The Easter bunny maybe could have done a better job at hiding the loot, but one huevo huntress felt it was fair to cut him some slack.
“There were so many eggs. It was kind of easy to find them,” said 9-year-old Bay Ridgite Sasha Bulychva, who scored nine eggs at Owl’s Head Park armed with a hot pink basket. “The Easter bunny had a lot of eggs to hide. So I understand.”
Tykes hopped across the park like bunnies in a balloon race, dabbled in face paint, and posed with the Easter bunny at the affair put together by the Crossroads Christian Church.
Others flooded Leif Ericson Park to peruse stands hawking chocolate bunnies, burgers and hot dogs, and, of course, a shot at more candy-stuffed eggs. One parent couldn’t believe the flood of families who descended on the plastic eggs peppered across the green.
“It was packed. There was so many people,” said Bay Ridgite Victoria Peschanska, who came out to the Zion Church event with her two daughters. “There weren’t enough eggs for all the kids. We ended up giving our eggs to some of the other kids who didn’t get any.”
But Shore Road Park was the place to be if you wanted to boogie with the Easter Bunny. State Sen. Martin Golden (R–Bay Ridge) organized the shindig where a disc jockey spun tunes for adults as the Easter Bunny hopped through the park helping tykes scout eggs.
It was an egg-cellent event, but not everyone was ready to embrace the Easter Bunny.
“It was fun. There were a lot of kids and plenty of eggs,” said Bay Ridgite Jimmy Wu, who brought his son 2-year-old Jaden to Shore Road Park. “I wanted to expose him to Easter and teach him about the celebrations. But he was a little shy when he saw the Easter Bunny. I don’t think he was ready yet — maybe next year.”
