Standing O is extending the welcome mat to the 3 Black Cats Cafe and Cakery and Dream Big Innovation Center on its June 18 grand opening.
Assemblywoman Latrice Walker (D–Brownsville), Borough President Adams, the East Brooklyn Patch, and area residents attended the shindig at this first-of-its-kind establishment in the neighborhood.
The center is a “third place” for community members to eat, drink, gather, learn, and inspire one another — and is one of the first examples of the Dream Big Foundation turning entrepreneurial dreams of Brownsville community members into reality.
Thanks to mentorship and equity financing through Dream Big, the café is owned and operated by three sisters, locals Ionna, Diana and Melissa Jimenez. The innovation center consists of a combined 5,000 square foot multi-function space with a conference room, six desks, an 18-seat co-working table, wifi, smart televisions, and chalkboard-walls. So along with a cuppa and a tasty treat, aspiring entrepreneurs have a place to work, meet with mentors, and develop new skills as well as rent co-working space on a daily, weekly, or yearly basis.
“I’m so excited to finally open the doors of the café and center and continue to spur innovation and financial success from within,” said Rob LoCascio, founder of Dream Big and chief executive officer of Live Person.
