This grand opening was revolutionary.

Members of the local medical community gathered at the Haym Salomon Home for Nursing and Rehabilitation on Sept. 8 to celebrate the opening of a new rehabilitation unit — the Grand View Pavilion — which adds 240 beds to the Cropsey Avenue facility.

Our very own legendary columnist Carmine Santa Maria was in attendance with his lovely wife Sharon, and said he had not experienced an affair this up-scale in some time.

“People are scared to go to a nursing home because they’re afraid it will be their final resting place,” said Santa Maria. “But this place is so welcoming. It was like a preview of Heaven.”

Guests at the premiere party enjoyed a variety of entertainment options, including a magician, a mime, a string ensemble, and a Haym Salomon impersonator. Salonon was a Polish-born American Jewish businessman and broker who helped finance the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.

Guests also received personalized monogrammed bowls, mugs, and dishes, and enjoyed diverse dishes from a hot buffet.

“This affair was giving and not taking,” said a well-fed Santa Maria. “They gave you everything under the sun.”
