Fort Greene
Dominique Bryant has brought the green into Fort Greene. Not only president of the Ingersoll Residents Association, where she provides leadership to the nearly 4,000 person housing development, but she also helps run the Myrtle Avenue Farm Stand every Wednesday from 8 am to 3 pm now through October.
While dishin’ with the neighbors, and representing the Myrtle Avenue Revitalization Project, she gets to dish out fresh veggies and fresh baked bread, and discuss issues like affordable fruits for the residents in an area that is fast becoming a foodie haven with great restaurants and new dining adventures, but just a few supermarkets.
Standing O pal Dominique, in her spare time, also visits with day-care, senior, and health centers, and advises on enrolling in and using benefits at the local fresh food outlets.
Standing O says, “Nobody does it better when it comes to greening Fort Greene.”

Double the pleasure
Hats off to Patricia Flaherty, a volunteer at Crown Nursing Home, for receiving the 2013 Adult Volunteer of the Year Award from the New York State Health Facilities Association, and to Crown Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for receiving the 2013 Innovative Practice Award for its culture change program called “Circle of Life,” from the same organization.
Patricia has volunteered for the past 15 years spending more than 1,000 hours in the last year alone visiting with residents, leading craft sessions, and running bingo games. Vilma Osborne, administrator at Crown, said, “Her volunteerism is truly exemplary.”
Crown Nursing & Rehabilitation center offers so many innovative programs that it’s no wonder Patricia volunteers there. And it’s no wonder the facility was recognized for its Circle of Life program. “We are proud to be recognized with this award for this successful program,” added Vilma.

Opera sono buono
Thanks to the titans of government, council members Vincent Gentile (D–Dyker) and Sara Gonazlez, (D–Sunset Park), the Regina Opera Company received some much-needed funding.
The extra gelt will help it cover the costs of free performances at public libraries, cultural festivals, and parks, as well as its main stage opera productions. These monies keep the ticket prices low so we can all enjoy affordable opera right here in our very own little town.

Welcome to David Ehrenberg, the newly appointed president and CEO of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation. The organization manages the 300 acre, city-owned industrial park. David and his team will oversee the development, upgrade the yard’s infrastructure, and improve the yard’s employment programs.
Hey, it’s a big job, but someone has to do it, and David is just the guy. He’s fresh off a gig at the New York City Economic Development Corporation where he played a pivotal role in fulfilling Mayor Bloomberg’s five borough economic development program. And we all know what a task master the mayor is.
The Navy Yard is getting the best, say his backers.
“David will no doubt continue to lead the Navy Yard along its impressive path and his track record of advancing major development projects makes him an outstanding choice as leader of the Brooklyn Navy Yard,” said hizzoner hizzself.
