A four-alarm fire blazed through at least three homes in Midwood early Thursday morning, leaving 12 people injured, according to an FDNY spokesperson.
The FDNY received a call at 4:04 a.m. on June 13 regarding the fire at 1492 E. 17th St. and arrived at the scene at 4:20 a.m., the spokesperson said.
According to the Fire Department’s press office, 175 FDNY personal worked to get the fire under control.
FDNY confirmed that there were 12 people injured, including nine civilians and three firefighters, all of whom are being treated at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn.
Photos posted by the FDNY on Twitter show that the fire demolished one home and caused significant roof damage to the neighboring home.
Councilman Chaim Deutsch (D-Sheepshead Bay) took to Twitter to thank the FDNY and first responders for their work in quenching the blaze.
“Overnight, our district was affected by a fire that impacted at least three homes on East 17th Street between Avenue N and Avenue O,” he said. “I’m grateful to the @FDNY, @redcrossny, @NYPD70Pct, and others who responded. Our prayers are with all those injured.”
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined and is currently under investigation, the FDNY spokesperson said.
