All in all, it was just another plant in the wall.
A Downtown plaza that neighbors busy Flatbush Avenue got spruced up by students from George Westinghouse High School on Thursday. The green-thumbed teens crafted a living wall from discarded crates and vegetable plants, adding welcome greenery to the sparse plaza between Gold and Willoughby streets.
The 14 students have been working with the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership on the area they are calling Future Plaza since May, enlisting the help of La Fantastica Design Studio to create an aesthetically pleasing plan for the space.
And the wall is just the beginning. Next spring, the group will install a device that will collect rain water, and a drip irrigation system. They will also construct another, more conventional vegetable garden. This one will lay flat.
