Fulton Mall is rising right

Fulton Mall is rising right
The Brooklyn Paper / Ben Muessig

I agree with several points that Faith Hope Consolo makes about Fulton Mall, and that good things are happening in Downtown Brooklyn — specifically that Fulton Mall is beginning to capitalize on its “sweet spot” by attracting dynamic retailers that accommodate a diverse range of consumers and price points.

We also agree that the Fulton Mall can look to the growth of 34th Street as a model.

However, her assertions about the Mall are hyperbolic, inaccurate and frankly, destructive. For example, there are no 99-cent stores there.

Such statements discount the ongoing efforts of area stakeholders to further transform the retail corridor into a borough-wide shopping destination. Also, the Partnership continues to pursue more stores that serve all Brooklynites — as Fulton Mall did during its most dynamic days.

Let our efforts not in any way be misconstrued as attracting retailers that would neither make sense on the Mall nor embrace Brooklyn’s diverse retail market.
