Aug. 9 in West Virginia

Call it a Frank-win!

Quinn “Chief” Brodey, Jose Maria, and Franklin Correa each homered, powering the Cyclones to victory over the Black Bears.

The Cyclones’ force was on display from the get-go. Brodey knocked one out of the park with Walter “Rabbi” Rasquin on third to get our boys on the board in the first. In the next inning, Maria hit one deep into left with Scott Manea on base to double the Cyclones’ lead.

The Black Bears and Cyclones exchanged runs from the third to the sixth inning. The Black Bears got on the board when Austin Meadows singled with runners on the corners to score Brett Pope in the third, but the Cyclones evened it out in the next inning when Correa grounded into a force out at second with the bases loaded to score Jeremy Vazquez.

The Black Bears closed the gap in the bottom of the fourth. With runners on the corners, Lucas Tancas doubled to score both Dylan Busby and Bligh Madris to make it 5–3.

The Clones quickly gained ground in the next two innings. After Rasquin led off the fifth with a double, Jose Miguel Medina doubled to score Medina. In the sixth, Correa hit a solo home run to make it 7–3.

The Black Bears made one last effort to catch up, but the Cyclones squashed it shortly afterward. In the bottom of the sixth, Brett Pope was walked with the bases loaded to cut the Clones’ lead to three, but the Cyclones pushed it to five when Correa doubled with runners on second and third to score Vazquez and Maria to effectively wrap up the game.

The win puts the Cyclones at 15–33, dead last in the McNamara Division and eight-and-a-half games behind the second-worst team, the Hudson Valley Renegades.

The Cyclones hope to take two of three from the Black Bears tonight at 7:05 pm in West Virginia.
