Gravesend murder suspect arrested

Police have arrested a Manhattan resident for the May 26 murder of a Gravesend man and attempted murder of another.

Gavin Becerra, a 26-year-old Stillwell Avenue resident, died at Coney Island Hospital from gunshot wounds to the torso and legs suffered during an alleged robbery at his address involving four individuals, including the arrested man. Another victim suffered a gunshot wound in the incident, and is a witness in the case.

A criminal complaint report said the alleged robbery, which took place just before 11:30 pm, had been allegedly agreed upon by the suspect and three others, and that the suspect and one other individual allegedly held firearms that they used to shoot Becerra and the other victim before another member of the foursome allegedly robbed the two victims.

At his arraignment on Sept. 24, the 24-year-old suspect was charged with nine counts, including murder, attempted murder, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon, all in the first degree. He was remanded without bail, and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 30.
