Congratulations and happy 60th anniversary to the The Guild for Exceptional Children. The non-profit celebrated the auspicious event with an exceptional gala on Oct. 26 at the El Caribe in Mill Basin.
Paul Cassone, executive director of the Guild, welcomed invited guests and staff to the whoop-de-do where Ken Rosato, anchor at “Eyewitness News,” presided as Master of Ceremonies. Honorees included Bernard Carabello; Barry Cohen; former Bay Ridge Councilman Vincent Gentile; State Sen. Martin Golden (R–Bay Ridge); journalist Geraldo Rivera; The Charles A. Mastronardi Foundation; William Slow; and the Verrazano Rotary Club.
The honorees were recognized for their humanitarianism, generosity, and philanthropic spirit.
The Guild was founded in 1958 by parents who wanted to improve the quality of life for their children with special needs. For 60 years, it has been a leader in championing the needs of adults living with developmental disabilities. The Guild opened the first residence in the state in 1970.
Cassone explained, “We strive to carry on the legacy of our founding parents in strengthening our mission of care to help children and adults living with developmental disabilities lead dignified and satisfying lives, reaching their fullest potential, and assisting families in every step of their journey.”
