He’s an extra-special delivery!
Brooklyn welcomed its first newborn, Joshua Miguel Brito, just 25 minutes after the New Year’s Eve ball dropped. And the babe, who arrived at Bedford-Stuyvesant’s Woodhull Medical Center on Jan. 1 weighing six pounds, 14 ounces, is nothing short of a miracle, according to parents Erica Hernandez and Joshua Brito, who said their first child arrived six years after his great-grandmother died on the very same day.
“I lost my grandmother six years ago on New Year’s Day, and with him coming, it was like a blessing,” said Hernandez, who lives in Bushwick. “My family and I are super excited. I’m just happy he’s here now.”
About four hours later, doctors at NYU Langone Hospital–Brooklyn ferried Wilmer De Los Santos Asencio into the world at 4:11 am. Parents Tirsia Maria Asencio De Los Santos and Wilson Andres De Los Santos Guzman were overjoyed to hold their five pound, 10 ounce son, and couldn’t wait to bring him home to meet his big 17-year-old brother, according to the Sunset Park mom who spoke through a translator.
The third bundle of joy to arrive in the Borough of Kings on New Year’s Day, seven-pound-ten-ounce Aarya Datar, emerged at 6:49 am at Methodist Hospital in Park Slope. Her parents Vandekode Kulkarni and Praveen Datar, who live in Crown Heights, are thrilled their daughter will begin each year with her birthday, the newborn’s mother said.
“We are so thrilled to welcome Aarya into the world,” said Kulkarni, who also has a 1-year-old daughter. “We feel very special to have one of the first babies of the new year.
The first baby to enter New York City this year was born in the Bronx, and came out kicking and screaming just two minutes before Brito did, according to information from the public-hospital system.
