From the war-torn alleys of Fallujah, Iraq to the rough and tumble streets of East Flatbush, Police Officer Kevin Tagnosky has seen his share of conflicts.
However, it was a recent gun collar that earned the three-year NYPD veteran the 67th Precinct’s recent “Cop of the Month” award.
The incident in question occurred at about 4 a.m., Nov. 24, when Tagnosky and his partner, Marcello Salazar, observed a vehicle running a red light and gave chase.
After the alleged perpetrators ran several red lights, the crime fighting duo were able to make the, pull the driver from the car and recover a loaded .40-calibre handgun.
“When everybody’s sleeping these guys are out there making sure the streets are safe,” commented Dep. Inspector Corey Pegues, adding that gun arrests are very big busts for patrol officers.
But for Tagnosky, 27, a three-year veteran of the 67th Precinct and the NYPD, it wasn’t his first brush with possible violence.
A U. S. Marine for six years, Tagnosky was in the infantry and fought in Fallujah, Iraq in 2004-05.
“It was an experience,” he said of the tour without elaborating.
Tagnosky said he got into law enforcement because he always wanted to pursue t5he profession and has several family members in law enforcement throughout several states.
“The 6-7 is one of the more active houses in Brooklyn South,” said Tagnosky. “I like serving the people although you don’t get a lot of interaction working the midnight shift.”
