Brooklyn’s batters had little luck at the plate last night, scoring just one run, and its pitchers didn’t fare any better on the mound, giving up seven to Aberdeen in a crushing Independence Day loss.
The Cyclones got on the board in the second when David Miranda knocked a single up the hole that brought in Ross Adolph, after he was walked and moved to third on a base hit from catcher Nick Meyer.
But Clones starter Braim Campusano gave up the lead in the next inning, after he walked Ironbird Milton Ramos and then allowed Doran Turchin to smack a two-run homer that brought Aberdeen in front, where the team would stay for the rest of the game.
Campusano, who wound up taking the loss, later allowed the Ironbirds to pad its lead when, with two outs in the sixth, he hurled a ball that hit batter Willy Yahn — who stole second, and moved to third on a throwing error by Meyer — walked Robbie Thorburn, who also stole second, then gave up a line-drive double to Alexis Torres that scored Yahn and Thorburn, making it 4–1.
Reliver Mac Lozer replaced Campusano on the mound later that inning, and kept Aberdeen off the board through the eighth, when he was swapped for Tylor Megill, who gave up two more runs to the Ironbirds in the ninth before being relieved by Ryan Selmer, who gave up another run, bringing the score to 7–1.
Brooklyn’s Boys of Summer seek revenge on the Ironbirds tonight at MCU Park at 7 pm.
