A 12-year-old boy is fighting for his life after a driver hit him as he was cycling in Kensington on the morning of Sept. 14, sending the youngster hurling to the pavement and shattering his helmet to smithereens, according to police.

The kid was riding towards Dome Playground on the sidewalk of Courtelyou Road at around 6:40 am when he tried to ride across Dahell Road on a red light, according to police.

As the boy was crossing, the driver of a Lexus GS 350 — who police say had a green light — struck the youth with his driver-side bumper, throwing him to the asphalt, and the impact smashed his helmet into several pieces, photos of the aftermath show.

Emergency responders found him lying on the pavement with a severe head injury and rushed him to Maimonides Medical Center where he is in critical condition, cops said.

The driver remained on the scene and police say they haven’t arrested him or issued any summonses.
