These kids’ spring break is on a roll.
The Samuel J. and Ethel LeFrak Center, the skating complex in Prospect Park that re-opened with a concrete roller rink on April 12, welcomed hundreds of elementary- and middle-school kids for Brooklyn’s first Skate Day on Thursday morning. It was a gliding good time, a city spokesman said.
“It was a great time for everyone,” said Mark Zustovich.
Department of Youth and Community Development commissioner Bill Chong and other pols joined the kids for the annual event. The youngsters skated for hours to 1980s tunes and songs by new artists such as singer-songwriter Lorde.
Skate Day is usually held at the ice-skating rink in Bryant Park, but the new LeFrak complex drew the festivities across the East River for the very first time, according to Zustovich.
“We thought it’d be a great opportunity to try out this new place,” he said.
The facility will host Roller Derby Day with the Gotham Girls on April 19. The event will include a live game and activities and talks with the pros.
