They broke a sweat while cracking a smile.

About 60 fitness-minded Brooklynites of all ages headed to Kaiser Park in Coney Island on Sept. 22 to have fun exercising at the Fitness Festival, sponsored by the Parks Department and Councilman Treyger (D–Coney Island). A Coney Island resident who attended with her 6-year-old daughter said the four-hour festival offered a great opportunity for kids to ditch their electronics for some fresh air and exercise.

“It’s so important for these kids to just go out and have fun and play in the park and get their heads out of the iPads and iPhones, and just enjoy being outside again,” said Klarisa Konstantinovsky, whose daughter, Izabelle, attended the event with her Girl Scout troop and enjoyed getting in some yoga and bouncing on the Bosu balance balls.

Attendees enjoyed Zumba, yoga, and meditation classes, according to a Parks Department spokeswoman, as well as fitness stations where they could play basketball and soccer, or work on plyometrics training, which involves short bursts of strenuous activity to develop muscles.

One of the Zumba teachers who taught the dance classes said she was happy to see locals of all ages bonding while getting their workouts.

“It was very fun — it was good to see families participate with the kids,” said Flatbush resident Mo Johnson.
