A man was sentenced to 22 years in prison in Brooklyn Supreme Court on Aug. 30, after he pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing his girlfriend in their Flatbush apartment.
Arthur Wyche of Neptune, New Jersey, stabbed his girlfriend Dorina Webster multiple times in the chest and both legs after she told him to move out of her apartment on Amersfort Place on Aug. 31, 2015.
District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said that Wyche, who pleaded guilty three months ago, would finally suffer the consequences of his savage actions and that his office will continue to prosecute domestic violence.
“This defendant responded to a woman’s rejection with rage and brutality, then left her to die,” he said. “He has now been held responsible for his actions, and my office will continue to vigorously prosecute all instances of intimate-partner violence.”
Wyche and Webster met online and dated on and off for three years before moving in together, according to the district attorney’s office.
After Wyche stabbed her and left her bleeding in the apartment, she sought help from a neighbor who called 911. When the neighbor opened the door, Webster identified Wyche as her attacker.
Webster was taken to Kings County Hospital where she underwent surgery, and while she was in the intensive care unit, she told friends and the investigating detective that it was Wyche who had stabbed her. Wyche also texted her to check on her condition while she was in hospital.
Webster died due to complications from the stab wounds four days later.
Detectives arrested Wyche on Sept. 5 at a bus station in New Jersey — he had a one-way bus ticket to Philadelphia.
Following his arrest, he made a video statement admitting to stabbing Webster when she told him to pack his belongings and move out.
