These kids are going into summer with a roar!
Flatlands elementary school kids were feline fine on June 13, when they took their final bow following a stellar rendition of “The Lion King” ahead of their summer vacation.
And the student’s warm-weather break — coming June 26 — is well deserved, according to play’s director, who said that kids, parents, and teachers put in a lot of overtime to get the curtain off the ground Thursday.
“Students, parents and teachers would stay after school, come on Saturdays and volunteer their free time with no guarantee of extra money to make this happen for PS 203,” David Senatore.
The PS 203 rendition of the classic Broadway musical featured a slimmed-down, two-act narrative that included 15 main characters, including Mufasa, Simba, Nala and Zazu, along with background extras, dancers, and choir members, who belted out tunes to the delight of parents.
The kids managed to sell more than 300 tickets to their musical cat drama, and Senatore said hopes to expand to school’s theater repertoire when the kids come back from break.
“Next year I hope to have two plays instead of just one,” he said.
