It was the battle of the Harveys!

Mets flamethrower Matt Harvey faced off against Ironbirds’ starter Bryan Harvey — no relation — and held his own, allowing just one hit and no runs in three innings pitched, but the Ironbirds’ bats came alive when Marcel Renteria replaced Harvey, as he allowed three hits and four runs to spark a five-run rally, handing the Clones the team’s fifth-straight loss.

Manager Edgardo Allfonzo replaced Harvey with Renteria to start the fourth inning, which ultimately spelled doom for the Cyclones. Zach Jerrett was walked then T.J. Nichting singled before Mason McCoy singled to score Jerrett and advance Nichting to third. Trevor Naport then doubled to score both McCoy and Nichting, which ended Renteria’s day.

Fonzie replaced Renteria with Napolitano, who was an improvement, but didn’t stop the Ironbirds’ rally entirely. Garrett Copeland was walked then Luke Ringhofer doubled to score Naport and advance Copeland to third. Irinvg Ortega then grounded out to score Copeland to make it 5–0.

The Cyclones were quick to respond. In the bottom of the same inning, the Clones had runners on second and third with one out when Jose Miguel “Funky Cold” Medina singled to score Edgardo Fermin to make it 5–1.

The Ironbirds and Cyclones exchanged runs in the ninth. Tristen Graham singled then stole second before Jean Carillo singled to score Graham. For Brooklyn, Edgardo Fermin led off the bottom of the ninth with a single then advanced to second off a passed ball. Quinn Brodey then grounded out to advance Fermin to third before Jeremy Vazquez grounded out to score Fermin.

The loss puts the Cyclones at 15–38, which further cements the team as the worst in both the McNamara Division and the New York-Penn League. They are now thirteen-and-a-half games in back of the Hudson Valley Renegades, and 19-and-a-half behind the first place Staten Island Yankees.

The Cyclones hope to snap out of the five-game skid tonight at 7 pm at MCU Park.
