The Dark Knight rises!
New York Mets starter Matt Harvey will be making a rehab start for the Cyclones when Brooklyn plays the Hudson Valley Renegades today at 7:05 pm in Wappingers Falls — the Dark Knight’s first start since June 14 with the Mets, so the Cyclones will bring him up slowly.
“It’s his first game action in almost two months so I’d expect him to only throw an inning or so,” Cyclones’ spokesman Billy Harner said.
Since being put on the disabled list, Harvey has been recovering an injured right shoulder. As of now, there has been no timetable for Harvey’s return to the Mets, so the Cyclones are ready to keep him for as long as he needs to be there.
“Typically it’s a day-by-day process with rehab assignments as a lot of it depends on how the player feels as he progresses,” Harner said. “All we know for now is that he will pitch for us tomorrow and then we’ll go from there.”
Harvey has been with the Mets since being selected by the organization in the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, and this will be his first appearance for the Brooklyn Cyclones.
The Cyclones could use the help. Our boys have the worst record in the New York–Penn League at 15–34, and the team’s pitching is about as bad as it could be, with a league-worst 4.61 earned-run average, giving up 257 runs in 423 innings. And Harvey could even help at the plate (even though he won’t bat), as the Clones have scored a league-worst 176 runs.
