A shout out to Erena Hair Center and Salon! The local hair palace opened its doors on May 7 and celebrated moms with entertainment, fab food, and loads of hair styling.
The annual “Momabration” welcomed Kisha Johnson McRae (pictured above, left, with Mirielle Edouard), a 25-year-plus lupus survivor who inspired others fighting their own battles with her courage and determination. Entertainment was supplied by No Limit Band NYC, and moms nibbled delicious confections from Renee’s Sweet Tooth in Far Rockaway.
Magnificent moms are his bread and butter, explained Erena founder V. Phillip Baker.
“More than 85 percent of my clients are mothers from all walks of life and have one common goal — to look good,” he said.
Baker celebrates moms every Mother’s Day to honor their sacrifices, dedication, and commitment.
“For years, I’ve watched as mothers came in and out of my establishment, on or before Mother’s Day, complaining of feeling unappreciated for all that they do,” he said. “Mothers are the very fabric of our communities, businesses, schools, and families — for this, they deserve to be recognized and treated like the queens that they are, even if it’s only for one day out of the year.”

On Stage at Kingsborough is partnering with Coney Island Sports Foundation to provide entertainment at the Coney Island Boardwalk 5K Charity Run and Walk on June 26.
“We are so delighted to be a part of this exciting and important annual event,” said Standing O pal Anna Becker, executive director of On Stage at Kingsborough. “I look forward to keeping the runners — as well as the sunbathers and strollers — entertained on the Boardwalk with world-class dancers, singers, and musicians.”
Participants meet at 9:30 am at W. 19th Street and the Riegelmann Boardwalk, and finishers will receive a race shirt, water bottle, and medal. Run in costume and have a chance to win a prize. All ages welcome.

Sparking the community
Brooklyn Community Foundation is launching its Spark Prize, the first and only honor of its kind celebrating changemakers in the borough’s thriving non-profit sector. The Spark Prize is named after Brooklyn Community Foundation’s mission to spark lasting social change in Brooklyn.
Five organizations will each receive the $100,000 prize this year. Borough non-profits with annual operating budgets of more than $350,000 and a minimum of five years in operation are invited to apply now through June 3 at www.Spark
Non-profits make up the community, said Cecilia Clarke, president and chief executive officer of Brooklyn Community Foundation.
Applicants must submit a 1,000-word essay on the following criteria:
Born in Brooklyn: Organizations that have a deep history in Brooklyn and continued commitment to serving the borough.
Commitment to Equity: Organizations that address systemic challenges, and are working toward racial and social justice for all Brooklynites.
Values Driven: Organizations that have strong, articulated values that permeate through all aspects of their work and align with Brooklyn Community Foundation’s five defining values — courage, respect, honesty, collaboration, and creativity
Vision for Future: Organizations that have a strong forward-looking vision for their work in Brooklyn and beyond.
