19-year-old moped rider hit and killed by semi-truck in Sunset Park

A 19-year-old was killed after being struck by a semi-truck in Sunset Park early on Saturday morning. 

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, cops responded to a 911 call reporting a vehicle collision on 39th Street and 4th Avenue just off the Gowanus Expressway.

When police arrived, they discovered the teenaged victim, Josue Mardoqueo Vincente Yac, with “severe” head and body trauma. 

Emergency responders brought Vincente Yac NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where he was later pronounced deceased. 

Following an investigation by the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad, police said Vincente Yac was driving a moped southbound on 4th Avenue he was struck by a driver in a 2002 Peterbilt tractor-trailer turning right from 4th Avenue onto 39th Street.

According to NYC Crash Mapper, there have been 34 crashes at the 39th Street 4th Avenue intersection since 2018 with 12 cyclist injuries, 12 pedestrian injuries and 10 motorist injuries. Saturday’s crash appears to be the first fatality reported at the location.

The 41-year old operator of the truck initially left the scene of the accident before eventually going to a local police precinct to report his involvement in the crash. 

No arrests have been made, and the incident is under investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad.
