Eight people were injured — three seriously — when an allegedly drunk driver smashed into pedestrians and two other cars at a Flatbush Avenue intersection on April 13.
At 8:42 pm, police responded to a 911 call at the intersection of Flatbush Avenue and Farragut Road and found a three-car wreck.
The driver of a Mercedes was allegedly speeding down the avenue when he slammed into a BMW waiting at a traffic light, then careened into three people crossing the street, and then another person at a payphone, according to police.
“The Mercedes was going southbound down Flatbush at a high rate of speed,” said a police spokesman.
The impact from the Mercedes also knocked the BMW into the Honda that was behind it at the stoplight, cops said.
Three people were seriously injured in the crash. The driver of the Mercedes went to Maimonides Medical Center with a fractured neck, a teen in the crosswalk went to Kings County Hospital Center with severe head and leg injuries, and the man at the payphone also went to Kings County with critical face and body injuries. Two other pedestrians, the drivers of the Honda and the BMW, and a passenger in the Mercedes were brought to Kings County with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the spokesman.
Police arrested the driver of the Mercedes after the incident. The East Flatbush man was charged with driving while intoxicated and refusal to take a breathalyzer test, a police spokeswoman said.
