Police: Dirtbag tried to rape, strangle woman on Court St

Police are hunting down a guy who they say tried to rape and strangle a woman on Court Street on Tuesday morning.

The alleged scumbag met the victim around 5 am on Smith Street between Bergen and Dean streets and struck up a conversation, offering to buy her a soda and cigarettes, cops said.

The victim took the suspect up on his offer and the two walked to a nearby drug store on the corner of Court Street and Atlantic Avenue. After the pair left the store, as they neared Pacific Avenue, the guy attacked the woman, choking her with a cable and attempting to cut her clothes off with a knife, police said.

But once the victim started screaming, the alleged dirtbag took off running down Pacific Avenue to parts unknown, cops said.

Authorities describe the alleged lowlife as around 30 years old and standing 5-foot-4, and say he was wearing a black studded leather vest, a light-colored shirt, dark jeans, and cowboy boots at the time of the attack.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577–8477. The public can also submit tips by logging onto Crime Stoppers’ website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.crom or by texting their tips to 274637, then entering TIP577.
