Police: Passenger dead after drunk driver crashed into big rig

Police arrested a driver who they say is responsible for killing a passenger in his car on Wednesday morning, after he crashed the vehicle into the side of a huge truck in Williamsburg — allegedly while drunk and speeding.

The 27-year-old man was driving his 2015 Honda Civic Queens-bound along Vandervoort Avenue at around 6 am with 26-year-old Greenpointer Diana Lemache in the front passenger seat, when he allegedly plowed into a truck’s trailer as the big rig was turning left out of an industrial building between Withers Street and Maspeth Avenue, cops said.

The car became pinned under the truck bed, according to a New York Post report, and authorities say they found Lemache unconscious and unresponsive with severe head trauma when they pulled her out, while the driver had minor injuries. Paramedics rushed both to Woodhull Hospital, where Lemache was pronounced dead, cops said.

Police then arrested the driver on a laundry list of charges, including manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, and speeding.

The driver of the truck was not injured.
