The police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man who they believe raped a woman inside a 52nd Street building in Sunset Park on July 13.

The attack occurred inside the building near Seventh Avenue at around 1 am, when a man knocked on a woman’s door and then forced his way into her apartment once she opened it. He then forced her to her room, took out a gun, and raped her, the victim said. The attacker demanded cash before he left, and then fled on foot with $500 after he restrained the woman’s arms with a sweater, according to police.

The woman, who was uninjured, freed herself and called 911, police said.

Police describe the man as in his 30s, and about five feet eight inches tall, with a medium build. He has tattoos on his left arm and was carrying a messenger bag, according to the report.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577–8477 or at (888) 577–4782. The public can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577. All tips are confidential.
