A school bus hit a pregnant pedestrian in Flatlands on April 5, according to witnesses.

“I saw this bus traveling down East 40th Street, making a turn onto Kings Highway and hitting a pregnant woman, and pushing her for a couple yards before she was finally knocked over,” said Jane Lavaud.

The bus collided with the woman as she was crossing Kings Highway toward Flatlands Avenue on foot shortly after 4 p.m.

The woman fell to the ground and appeared initially to be unconscious, according to Lavaud.

“She was unconscious for a few moments before she finally came through and she was trembling,” said Lavaud. “She was still immoble when paramedics arrived.”

Emergency responders took the woman to Mount Sinai Beth Israel hospital shortly before 4:30 p.m., according to a police officer at the scene. The woman’s condition is not yet known.

Authorities have not released the victim’s name, as the investigation is ongoing.
