Primark, originally from Ireland, is expanding and plans to open at City Point in the former Century 21 space in December, City Point announced on Instagram. The company is now hiring part time, full time and seasonal employees at its Primark Recruitment Center at City Point, outfitted with a comfy sofa, desks and sample merchandise.

Located at 445 Albee Square West, this will be Primark’s second store in Brooklyn. The first one opened at King’s Plaza in December 2021. The company is known for adventurous looks — current items include turquoise “satin disco pants” — and basics at extremely low prices.

The store fits with Fulton Mall’s emphasis on discount shopping and recent turn away from mom and pop retailers toward national and international chains. City Point, which includes three residential towers over a shopping center, replaced the Albee Square Mall and helped bring big national retailers to Downtown Brooklyn — albeit ones still focused on discount shopping.

From the 19th century until the consolidation of department stores beginning in the 1980s, Downtown Brooklyn was a shopping destination with a range of stores, including the tony Abraham & Strauss.
