It was a heated game while it lasted.

The Cyclones faced-off against the Connecticut Tigers last night, but a massive rainstorm forced the teams to postpone the matchup, ending it on a cliffhanger after an action-packed one and a half innings.

The Tigers roughed up Cyclones starter Jake Simon right out of the gate when Colby Bortles singled to left with no outs and bases loaded, scoring Luke Burch and Garrett McCain.

A double from Hector Martinez that scored Bortles and Reynaldo Rivera brought the score to 4–0, forcing Clones Manager Edgardo “Fonzie” Alfonzo to replace Simon with reliever Joe Napolitano before the inning even closed.

Brooklyn’s Boys of Summer quickly gained ground, however, when Matt Winaker hit a fielder’s choice grounder with the bases loaded and no outs, scoring Leon Byrd. Tigers second baseman Martinez overthrew first on the same play, scoring Walter Rasquin and bringing the tally to 4–2.

Connecticut kept the heat on in the second when Cole Peterson scored on McCain’s sacrifice fly — after singling, stealing second, and reaching third on a throwing error by Clones catcher Carlos Sanchez — making it 5–2.

But the Cyclones — who racked up seven straight losses prior to last night’s game — kept their momentum when Sanchez hit a lead-off triple in the bottom of the inning, reaching third on an awkward slide.

The catcher was alright, but the umpires decided the field was too unsafe to continue playing on as rain continued to fall, and postponed the match due to the conditions.

The game resumes today at 1 pm at MCU Park with the Tigers up 5–2 and Sanchez on third.
