Keep your windows closed and your eyes open!
Thieves looted seven Brooklyn Heights homes over the past two weeks, according to police — and local leaders are advising locals to lock their doors and windows and to be on the lookout for cat burglars in case they’re not done.
“People have to be vigilant and be aware of anyone acting suspicious,” said Peter Bray, head of civic group the Brooklyn Heights Association.
The burglaries took place at homes on Willow, Joralemon, and Montague streets between Dec. 16 and Dec. 29, Bray said, and all of the thefts seem to have been during the daytime when the homes were unoccupied, according to police.
Bray thinks the trend may be part of one big spree, because he’s heard most involved the crook climbing through an open window — although some involved a miscreant forcing doors open.
“The underlying assumption is that these are related burglaries,” Bray said.
On at least one occasion, a burglar hit two units in the one building, according to police reports.
The rogue broke into the building on Willow Street near Clark Street at around 11:30 am on Dec. 29, making off with $1,332 worth of property — including a Samsung tablet, pearl earrings, $400 in gold bracelets, and rings — from one apartment, and then snatching $5,250 in belongings — including an Apple television, speakers, Coach handbags, binoculars, and camera equipment — from another, cops said.
The 84th Precinct has added extra officers to patrol the neighborhood, but is still trying to identify the culprit or culprits.
