Call them a lucky crowd!
Bay Ridgites celebrated St. Patrick’s Day early with and annual celebration on March 9 at the Danish Athletic Club. The party attracted Irish people of all ages, according to the event chair, who said everyone enjoyed themselves.
“The youngest was a 2-year-old and the oldest was 95,” said Christine Thorsen, who hails from bucolic Staten Island. “Everyone had a fantastic time. Before the evening was over, there were people doing the jig.”
Attendees took in the tunes of the Brooklyn Bards quartet, who played Irish music by the Clancy Brothers, the Chieftains, and the Furey Brothers, and got everyone dancing, according to Thorsen.
“They were absolutely fantastic,” she said.
And after everyone worked up an appetite on the dance floor, partygoers snacked on a dinner of corned beef and cabbage — with sides of carrots and potatoes — prepared by Thorsen’s son, Dave. One attendee said the meal was the highlight of the night.
“The food was very, very good,” said Ridgite Beverly Malmbeck.
Another Ridgite succinctly summed up the party, calling it nothing short of a smashing success.
“The food was excellent, the music was grand, and everybody had a good time,” said Bob Carlsen.
