Road work on Guider Avenue Bridge

The city’s Department of Transportation is slated to close the East 8th Street Bridge for repairs starting Feb. 15 for between 12 and 18 months.

The bridge is an extension of Guider Avenue that runs over the Belt Parkway.

Community Board 15 Chair Theresa Scavo said motorists driving from Manhattan Beach or Brighton Beach, who want to access the Belt Parkway westbound from Guider Avenue need to take a left on Avenue Z and then another left on Hubbard Street until the entrance.

Motorists driving southbound can use the service road to enter the highway as they usually do, she said.

The bridge repairs comes as the DOT is repairing seven others along the Belt Parkway.

They include the Rockaway Parkway, Fresh Creek, Paerdegat Basin, Bay Ridge Avenue, Nostrand Avenue, Gerritsen Inlet, and Mill Basin bridges.

Come spring the Department of Design and Construction will also do massive work on the Belt Parkway between Coney Island Avenue and Knapp Street.

Work will include new guardrails, drainage, medians and paving.

Scavo said the work will also take between 12 and 18 months, but any lane or road closings won’t be available until a contractor is decided upon.
