Self-service library book check-out

You’ll be able to check out your own books at the Park Slope library by the time its roster of improvements is completed.

Area residents joined representatives of the Brooklyn Public Library at the local archive, 431 6th Avenue, to learn more about $2.7 million upgrade project, estimated to be completed by the fall of 2011.

The improvements will include a new ADA-compliant ramp, entry door, elevator and bathrooms in addition to new interior finishes, lighting and flooring.

Until then, bookmobile service will be offered outside the library on Mondays and Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Park Slope library is a Carnegie building which opened in 1906 and was landmarked in 1998. Its last two major renovations were in 1948 and 1980.
