The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is cutting weekend and early Monday morning service on 2 and 3 trains between Brooklyn and Manhattan beginning the evening of June 16 through next spring, according to the transit agency.
There will be no 2 or 3 train service in Brooklyn during the weekend interruptions, which last from 11:45 pm on Fridays to 5:00 am on Mondays. Straphangers instead are encouraged to rely on 4 or 5 trains, which will run local, for service in and out of the borough.
Service is being interrupted in order to accommodate Hurricane Sandy-related repair work on the 1.2 mile-long Clark Street Tube, which carries 2 and 3 trains through the East River between Kings County and Manhattan and flooded with more than a half-million gallons of water during the 2012 super-storm, damaging tracks and corroding electrical equipment.
Clark Street and Hoyt Street 2 and 3 stations will be closed on weekends to accommodate the tunnel repairs, according to the transit agency, and riders are encouraged to use nearby Borough Hall and Nevins Street stations for 4 and 5 train service instead.
Brooklynites traveling to Manhattan are encouraged to take N, Q, and R trains from Atlantic Avenue–Barclays Center.
The weekend interruptions are expected to affect some 205,000 riders, causing four-and-a-half minute delays on average, according to the transit authority.
