The Cyclones scored first to take an early lead last night, but failed to add insurance to its one run while giving up five to the Yankees in three consecutive innings, handing victory to the Evil Empire.
Brooklyn third baseman Brian Sharp cracked a homer over the right field wall in the third, putting the Clones’s lone run on the board.
The hated Yanks answered back in the fourth with a homer of its own, tieing the game before Frederick Cuevas — who got on base when Brooklyn hurler Joel Huertas hit him with a pitch, advanced to second on Carlos Cortes’s single, then rounded third and home after two more wayward throws from Huertas — scored to make it 2–1 Staten Island.
The Yankees padded its lead with a run in the fifth, and two more in the sixth, and its pitchers kept Brooklyn’s bats at bay for the rest of the game.
With the loss, our boys have now given up two three-game series in a row, but they still hold second place in the New York-Penn League McNamara Division with an 11-7 record.
The Cyclones will attempt to wipe the slate clean tonight against the Aberdeen Ironbirds at MCU Park at 6 pm.
