Strong pitching stops Valley Cats

Cyclones 5

Tri-City 0

July 17 at Tri-City

Jaison Vilera threw seven innings of two-hit ball, striking out nine in the process and leading the Cyclones to victory over the Valley Cats.

Vilera didn’t give up a hit until there were two outs in the fourth, cruising thanks to an offense that provided him with runs in the first, second, fourth, and sixth. Tommy Wilson threw a perfect eighth and before Ryley “Junior” Gilliam gave up two hits — but struck out two — in the ninth to secure the shutout.

Wagner Lagrange (4 for 5 with a run batted in) and Ross Adolph (3 for 5 with a double and a run scored) led the way for the Brooks against five Valley Cat pitchers, knocking seven of the team’s 13 hits. But our boys did strike out 12 times on the night.

The Clones take on Tri-City again tonight upstate 7 pm.
