The world famous Coney Island Cyclone, known for its thrilling drops and blazing speed, might have achieved landmark status 20 years ago, but it will truly be immortalized this summer at KeySpan Park.
The Brooklyn Cyclones will offer the first 2,500 lucky fans through the stadium’s turnstiles at 1904 Surf Avenue for its 7 p.m., June 30 game against the Hudson Valley Renegades a replica of the legendary wooden roller coaster.
“We are proud to have the Cyclone roller coaster celebrated by the Brooklyn Cyclones,” said Astroland owner Carol Albert. “The Cyclone has long been the heart and soul of Coney Island and we are pleased to say that the Cyclones are too.”
Cyclones General Manager Steve Cohen agrees, adding “Both Cyclones have grown to become part of Coney Island’s identity, and fans will get the best of both worlds when they come to KeySpan Park on June 30th.”
More than 80 years have passed since the Cyclone’s maiden journey around the tracks, yet it remains a popular tourist attraction and consistently ranks among the top roller coasters in the country. The team, whose namesake is borrowed from the neighboring ride, is proud to offer this and other special giveaways this season, including bobbleheads dedicated to WFAN radio personalities Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton, and former Dodger pitcher Carl Erskine.
