Teen driver critically injures man crossing Ocean Parkway

A 17-year-old driver critically injured a man when she ran him down with her car on Ocean Parkway — Brooklyn’s so called “Avenue of Death” — late in the night of Nov. 12.

Police and firefighters were called to the scene near Avenue M at 11:47 pm, where a volunteer ambulance collected the injured man and rushed him to Brooklyn Hospital, according to an FDNY spokesman.

The victim was making his way across Ocean Parkway along Avenue M when he was struck.

No charges are currently pending, although the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is still reviewing evidence, according to a police spokesman.

The Tri-State Transportation Campaign designated Ocean Parkway as the borough’s most dangerous roadway for pedestrians in a study last year, after motorists claimed the lives of six people on the boulevard between 2009 and 2011.

Prior to that, four people were killed and 36 pedestrians and cyclists were injured at the Ocean Parkway and Church Avenue intersection between 1995 and 2008, according to statistics provided by the anti-car group Transportation Alternatives.
