The makings of a man

Catch the big one at this year’s fishing derby

Being a man isn’t just about sipping strong whiskey and tearing into a blood-red steak. You also need to look and act the part. Here’s everything you need to celebrate all things masculine.

Golf
Located near Gravesend Bay, the Dyker Beach Golf Course is a serene escape from the city, and will make you love the game — it was here after all where Earl Woods learned to putt before passing that talent on to his son, Tiger. The par 71 course offers a full 18 holes for a day away from the office.

Cigars
You can’t smoke outside the maternity ward anymore, but that doesn’t mean you don’t a stogie from time to time. You can find premium cigars at Diamente’s Cigar Lounge in Fort Greene and Velvet Lounge in Williamsburg and puff away all night.
Diamante’s Brooklyn Cigar Lounge [108 S. Oxford St. between Fulton Street and Lafayette Avenue in Fort Greene, (646) 462-3876]; Velvet Lounge [174 Broadway between Bedford and Driggs avenues in Williamsburg, (718) 302-4427]. No smoking allowed in the bar.

Billiards and bowling
Why not make your favorite pool hall and bowling alley the same place? Ocean’s 8 has 27 pool tables and two bowling lanes for the heavy hitters, and air hockey and ping pong for the low-key guys. And the bar and restaurant will provide plenty of fuel for those strikes and corner shots.
Ocean’s 8 [308 Flatbush Ave. near Park Place in Park Slope, (718) 857-5555]. Bowling $3 per game per person, $12 per hour for two players, each additional player $2 per hour.

Suits
The team at Brooklyn Tailors promises a personal touch with its handmade suits — that’s why the tailors only work on one suit at a time. You’ll feel like royalty when they fit and design your next tweed or houndstooth, and fulfill every single wish along the way.
Brooklyn Tailors [358 Grand St. between Havemeyer Street and Marcy Avenue in Williamsburg, (347) 799-1646]. Open by appointment.

Shave and a cut
A man like you wants to look his best — and it starts with a little off the top. Both Damian’s Hair Styling in Carroll Gardens and the Park Slope Barber Shop do it the old-fashioned way, with red and white poles, straight razor shaves and barbers ready to hear the talk of the town.
