Dressed in their regalia and mortar boards, the 2016 graduates of St. Francis College braved a bit of wind and took their last walk at Brooklyn Bridge Park, where two valedictorians and nearly 350 graduates celebrated the 2016 commencement ceremonies on May 10.

Undergraduate Valedictorian Dragana Dzigurski is a communication arts major with a concentration in English and a minor in Spanish.

“I have never seen a community such as this one, a community that embraced foreigners, like myself,” she said in her speech.

Dragana followed in the footsteps her brother Marco, who graduated from St. Francis in 2014.

Valedictorian for Graduate Programs Theresa Franchi, an Endowed Scholarship recipient, shared her thoughts on the spirit of giving.

“It’s not about what we can do for ourselves, it’s about what we can do for others and our community,” she said. “We can all push boundaries to make this world a better place, even in small ways.”

Theresa is in the combined master’s and graduate program for accounting, and is also the second in her family to attend St. Francis — sis’ Annmarie is a graduate of 2011.

New York congressman Rep. Peter T. King (Class of ’65) gave the keynote address.

Standing O wishes all the graduates success in their chosen careers.
