Parents raising youngsters in Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo, Vinegar Hill, and Downtown can have their say on the city’s plan to redraw the boundaries of two local elementary school zones at a town hall meeting at PS 307 in Vinegar Hill tonight.
The city plans to alleviate the overcrowding at PS 8 in Brooklyn Heights next year by sending future students from Dumbo, Vinegar Hill, and small parts of Downtown and the Navy Yard to PS 307, which currently serves the area in and around the Farrugut Houses and is under capacity.
There will be a second meeting at PS 8 on Sept. 21.
Residents only have until Sept. 30 to scrutinize the plan and voice their concerns or support to the local community education council, which will vote on the rezoning next month.
The first town hall meeting will be held at PS 307 [209 York St. between Navy and Gold streets in Vinegar Hill, (718) 834–4748]. Sept. 16 at 6 pm.
The second meeting is at PS 8 [37 Hicks St. between Poplar and Middagh streets in Brooklyn Heights, (718) 834–6740]. Sept. 21 at 6:30 pm.
