The city is hosting a meeting on Tuesday night to answer locals’ questions about the imminent conversion of the New York Loft Hostel on Varet Street into a 140-bed homeless men’s shelter.

The Department of Homeless Services claims it let people know about the new refuge — which should open later this month or by mid-September — in July, but many locals say they hadn’t heard a thing until news broke last week.

Unfortunately, the meeting will clash with a special summer meeting of Community Board 1, which will be at the Swinging Sixties Senior Center (211 Ainslie St. at Manhattan Avenue in Williamsburg) at 6 pm.

Shelter meeting at the Green Fitness Studio (232 Varet St., second floor, between White and Bogart streets in Williamsburg). Aug. 9 at 7 pm.
