Marine Park just caught a break.

ProHealth ER DOX celebrated the grand opening of its Avenue U urgent-care clinic on Sept. 10, giving residents of Marine Park and surrounding neighborhoods a state-of-the-art reason to stay local when it comes to treating broken bones and an array of other health issues.

“We can provide the same care as you would get in the emergency department of a major hospital,” said marketing director Karen Piccirillo. “It should be a big help to the community.”

ProHealth, which only employs board-certified emergency-medical doctors, will provide walk-in service and promises no waits, offering what it hopes will be an attractive alternative for those with non-life-threatening injuries who want to avoid the long waits at Mount Sinai Hospital on Kings Highway, or the more distant Coney Island Hospital in Sheepshead Bay, according to Councilman Alan Maisel (D–Marine Park), who was on hand Thursday to celebrate the clinic’s grand opening.

“It’s convenient,” said Maisel. “It’s good for if you cut yourself in the middle of the night, but don’t want to go to the emergency room.”

The new clinic, located between Coleman and Hendrickson streets, isn’t open quite that late, however, closing its doors at 9 pm, but it is open seven days a week. It is equipped with x-ray machines to detect and diagnose broken bones, and physicians are capable of applying splints, in addition to providing cam boots, braces, and crutches — although some patients will be referred to an orthopedist if a break warrants a plaster or fiberglass cast.

Additional services include rapid strep tests, draining abscesses, nebulizer treatments for those suffering asthma attacks, and sutures for patients with nasty gashes.

The clinic takes most forms of insurance, and offers low prices for those without — the cost of an exam will run about $95, while additional x-ray scans will set patients back $45, according to Piccirillo.

“The cost of the visit is very affordable,” she said.
