A woman is in critical condition after being struck by a garbage truck in Dyker Heights Tuesday morning.

Officers from the 68th Precinct responded to an 8:48 am call at 11th Avenue and 73rd Street, where they found a woman lying in the street unconscious, appearing to have been hit by a city Department of Sanitation truck.

Both the pedestrian and the sanitation truck driver were taken to Maimonides Medical Center.Photo by Lloyd Mitchell

An initial investigation suggests the driver, who remained on scene, was making a left turn on 11th Avenue from 73rd Street and struck the 39-year-old victim as she was crossing the roadway east toward 12th Avenue.

The woman was rushed in critical condition to Maimonides Medical Center in Borough Park. The driver was also taken to Maimonides, though in stable condition.

No arrests have been issued and the investigation is ongoing.

The crash comes less than a week after a driver who fatally struck six-year-old Tamy Quema Guachiac in a hit-and-run at 67th Street and 12th Avenue in August was indicted in Brooklyn District Court on Oct. 13.
