Tasty restaurant gossip

The Brooklyn Paper

This week we’re saying hello to Lokal (905 Lorimer St. at Bedford Avenue in Greenpoint), the Mediterranean restaurant opening for drinks this weekend and dinner within the next week. It can’t be soon enough for Greenpointers who are sick of crossing McCarren Park to try a new restaurant.

Also opening is Speakeasy (at the corner of Waverly and Greene avenues in Fort Greene), the eatery being helmed by “Top Chef” reality show alum Josie Smith-Malave. Friends and neighbors are already being served her high-end comfort food and doors should be open to the public any day.

But onto each plate a little rain must fall; while enjoying a hearty fall meal at Lodge (318 Grand St. at Havemeyer Street in Williamsburg) last week, our waitress Molly let it slip that the beloved turkey meatloaf was on its last legs. Replacing it will be roasted turkey; it’s definitely nothing to turn your nose up at, but we’ll miss the meatloaf nonetheless.

Farewell to long-time Park Slope resident Beso. People say it was nothing special, but GO Brooklyn knows the truth and will remember it fondly.

Congratulations to Zach Schulman and Graham Kelly for taking home the grand prize at casserole queen (and GO Brooklyn contributor) Emily Farris’s third annual Casserole Party on Oct. 16. The boys won prizes from The Brooklyn Kitchen and Word bookstore, and their “Cheese Love” casserole will grace the menu at Brooklyn Label (180 Franklin St. at Java Street in Greenpoint) for the next month.
