DEAD! Giglio imbroglio ends in murder

A quarrel that started at Williamsburg’s famed “Festa del Giglio” left a 22-year-old man dead on July 12.

The argument began at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Feast — a 121-year-old Italian street fair and celebration that famously features a procession of men who lug a five-ton, five-story tower down Havemeyer Street.

But by 12:30 am, the altercation had moved to an MTA bus depot at the corner of Roebling Street and Broadway, where two crowds of youths exchanged heated words, cops said.

“I heard a scuffle outside, there are kids yelling back and forth at each other, and then there was suddenly gunfire,” a witness told The Brooklyn Paper.

A shot hit Williamsburg resident Richard Duran in the face, and the gunmen — who onlookers suspect were gang members — sprinted off.

But the vicious crooks didn’t stay away for long.

“One of the people who was with the shooter came back and picked up an orange traffic cone and threw it at the head of the kid who was shot,” a witness said. “It missed his head by about a foot.”

Police arrived on the scene, but not fast enough to catch the crooks, who fled on Roebling.

Duran died of his injuries on Monday.
