We’re ba-ack! Home delivery of The Brooklyn Paper returns

Not all our home delivery people are as cute as this tyke, but no matter: You'll soon be receiving The Brooklyn Paper's award-winning print edition at home.

You love our print edition — and now we’re making it easier to get!

Starting this weekend, The Brooklyn Paper’s popular free home delivery service is back, meaning that you only need to walk to the curb to start enjoying the best newspaper in Brooklyn.

For starters, our routes include:

• Park Slope: Prospect Park West, from Flatbush Avenue to 15th Street; a large area bounded by Carroll and Third streets and Sixth and Eighth avenues; and a third zone bounded by Prospect Place, Union Street and Fifth and Sixth avenues.

• Brooklyn Heights: We’ll target Columbia Heights between Montague and Cranberry streets; plus an area bounded by Willow and Sidney places, and State and Joralemon streets.

• Fort Greene: Our two main home delivery zones will be the area bounded by Myrtle and DeKalb avenues and Adelphi Street and Hall Place; and Flatbush Avenue, St. Felix Street, DeKalb Avenue and Hanson Place.

• Boerum Hill: The delivery zone is bounded by Atlantic Avenue, Third Avenue, Wyckoff Street and Bond Street.

• Carroll Gardens and Cobble Hill: The zone is approximately the area bounded by Kane Street and Third Place between Clinton and Court streets.

Brooklyn Paper Publisher Celia Weintrob was overjoyed to be getting Brooklyn’s most-popular weekly paper into the hands of its readers.

“Home delivery gets the paper where we want to get it: into the hands of our readers, quickly and easily,” she said.

Weintrob pointed out that, unlike other newspapers, The Brooklyn Paper reduces clutter by leaving only three copies at every address — and by offering homeowners an opt-out feature.

Plus the fantasy that those who don't opt-out are actually reading it (all "three copies," even!) instead of junking it i or using it as a dropcloth.

As Goish knows, many households in Park Slope, etc. have the legal "no unsolicited materials" sign on their doors. If one copy shows up at my door I will prosecute via the Sanitation Department - legally and via trash bin. What a stupid move.

Bring it on! Forget the neat-freaks and pseudo-environmental liberals. Let them address real causes of pollution by giving-up their suv's and mini-vans and petitioning their corp employers to reduce and reuse. Distributing literature-even if only menus-is a basic right. It provide some pay and promotes commerce.

Why do you assume that all delivery opponents HAVE "suv's and mini-vans," or that our corp. employers - or our own businesses - don't "reduce and reuse"?

At least you acknowledge that the paper is the equivalent of a take-out menu: ad material, rather than a noble Free Speech vehicle. (And we all know that delivery isn't a public service: The more issues they can unload, the higher the circulation they can claim to have, and can pitch to advertisers.)

It's dumb move to do this when so many bldgs have "no unsolicited junk" signs up, when one "literature" delivery becomes a magnet for others, and when people already are PO'd about drifting crap on their doorsteps.

On Kane Street it goes straight from door step to trash. People here read the NY Times and their wine bottle labels and care less and less about the neighborhood!
Maybe some of them will use it to finally pick up dog poop!

People won't learn "about the neighborhood" just because a free paper is dumped on their doorsteps.
Gen'l interest newsrags are dying anyway, as people self-tailor what they read and-or get it online.
But this BP distribution thing is all about advertising anyway.

Point of information, however: The law that created the "No unsolicited material" opt out does NOT apply to newspapers.

If I want a paper, I'll either INITIATE the process of subscribing or requesting delivery, or I'll get it from some box, stand, or other site.
If it's thrown on my steps w/o request, it's just junk, like every other flyer.
